Residential Intruder Alarms

An intruder alarm is working 24/7, protecting your home against any uninvited visitors.

It is recommended that homeowners install an intruder alarm system as a means of deterring crime and preventing burglary. Intruder alarm systems have proven beneficial in protecting not only your property and its possessions, but also the people you hold closest.

armex can install alarm systems tailored to compliment your home and adapt to your budget. Solutions we offer include bells-only systems, motion detectors and monitored systems.

What are the Benefits of a Burglar Alarm

There are numerous advantages associated with the installation of an effective burglar alarm system. Needless to say, the most dominant advantage is that of protecting a specific property against intruders and deterring crime.

Installation of an intruder alarm can also result in reduced insurance costs; this additional measure of protection can decrease your premiums.

The most overlooked, benefit associated with the installation of a burglar alarm is the peace of mind. When leaving your property unmanned for long periods of time you can relax in the knowledge that your burglar alarm is working 24/7, protecting your home against any uninvited visitors.

Types of Intruder Alarms

Intruder alarm systems that are hard-wired can generally be considered as having increased reliability. Alarms of this variety are often equipped with a central back-up battery, this is a precautional method taken in case of a power outage.

Wired burglar alarms typically offer more versatility, they allow any device or feature to be added simply by wiring it into the system.

Alarm systems of this design generally require professional installation.

Wireless intruder systems are typically less troublesome and quicker to install. Removing the wired element means there is no need for the running and hiding of cables. Wireless burglar alarms operate by sending signals from the detectors to the control panel, this, in turn, triggers an alarm.

Another benefit of installing a wireless burglar alarm is that they can be moved with minimal effort, this means moving home or renovation work can take place without the problematic need for rewiring the alarm system.

Several options are available for monitoring an intruder alarm system, from a dialler that can call your mobile directly using your landline, to a 24/7 monitored system connected to a remote monitoring station.

armex are able to source systems that are smartphone compatible. This type of burglar alarm is becoming increasingly popular, allowing the user to remotely monitor their burglar alarm using their mobile phone, or another smart device with an internet connection.

In contrast to a monitored alarm, a bells-only alarm is not connected to any form of monitoring system, its only function is to sound an external siren. As a result of its reduced service, a bells-only alarm is usually the least expensive and consequently most popular option for the average homeowner.

A bells-only alarm installation relies solely on the assumption that people within the locality will respond to the siren. As such, a bells-only burglar alarm is appropriate for heavily populated neighbourhoods, that are likely to employ a neighbourhood watch scheme. It is expected other residents in neighbourhoods of this variety will respond to the alarm siren, contacting either the homeowner or the emergency services.

However, if your home or business resides in a remote location it is unlikely your alarm siren will be effective as there are little, or no, residents within your local vicinity. This means that in the unfortunate event of a break-in, it is unlikely your siren will be reported to the emergency services.

Whilst a bells-only alarm might be considered useless as the system relies solely on third party reporting, this type of alarm system does still serve as a visual deterrent and a distress signal. A bells-only alarm system also provides a budget-friendly security solution.
